SUDEP Awareness: Honouring Caroline’s Legacy One Year On

SUDEP Awareness: Honouring Caroline’s Legacy One Year On

Remembering a remarkable colleague and friend

This November marks one year since we lost our dear friend and colleague, Caroline Moreno, to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). Though she may be gone, her energy, spirit, and laughter continue to fill our hearts and inspire our work every single day.

Caroline was more than a colleague, she was family. Loved deeply by her friends, family, and everyone who knew her, she had an incredible ability to light up any room she walked into. She was determined, full of life, and always ready to bring people together. Her warmth and authenticity made others feel instantly at ease, while her energy and optimism were simply contagious.

At Capitalixe, Caroline’s passion for her work and the relationships she built with our clients and partners will forever leave an indelible mark. She truly believed in the company’s mission and poured her heart into helping it grow. As our first official team member, Caroline treated Capitalixe as her own, constantly improving processes, encouraging innovation, and motivating her colleagues to reach new heights. There is, and always will be, no one like Caroline.

Raising funds again for SUDEP Action

Last year, we came together to honour Caroline’s legacy and raised an incredible £16,931 for SUDEP Action, the UK charity dedicated to preventing epilepsy-related deaths and supporting families affected by epilepsy. The generosity of our community was overwhelming and a testament to the impact Caroline had on so many lives.

This year, as we mark one year since her passing, we’re fundraising again.

We’re working hard as a team, not just to grow Capitalixe, but to continue the incredible work Caroline helped build. Every milestone we reach, every improvement we make, carries a part of her spirit. Caroline believed in doing things the right way, and that belief still drives us every day.

Why SUDEP awareness matters

November is also National Epilepsy Awareness Month, a time to educate, advocate, and support those living with epilepsy and their families. It’s a cause close to our hearts.

1 in 20 people will experience a seizure in their lifetime, and at least 21 people die from an epilepsy-related death every week. What’s even more heartbreaking is that around 4 out of 10 of these deaths could be prevented through greater awareness, better understanding, and improved access to care.

Charities like SUDEP Action are working tirelessly to change that. They fund vital research, provide resources for families, and help people with epilepsy understand and reduce their risks. By contributing to their mission, we can help save lives and ensure that tragedies like Caroline’s become far rarer.

The legacy Caroline leaves with us

Caroline’s legacy at Capitalixe goes beyond her achievements, it lives in the culture she helped build. She led with empathy, optimism, and determination, inspiring everyone around her to aim higher and do better. She cared deeply about her work and the people she worked with, always taking the time to listen, guide, and celebrate others’ successes.

Her presence shaped the way we operate as a team today. The dedication, energy, and kindness she brought to every task continue to influence how we approach our work and how we support one another. Caroline taught us that progress is driven by people, compassion, collaboration, and the courage to make a difference.

How you can help

You can honour Caroline’s memory and contribute to life-saving work in a few simple ways:

  • Donate to SUDEP Action. Every contribution supports research, awareness, and family support.
  • Share her story. Help raise awareness by posting about SUDEP and epilepsy safety in your own networks.
  • Start conversations. Talking openly about epilepsy can save lives and reduce stigma.

Caroline’s light continues to shine

It’s been a year without Caroline, but her light hasn’t dimmed. It lives on in the kindness we share, the work we do, and the difference we strive to make.

This November, during National Epilepsy Awareness Month, we invite our community to join us once again in supporting SUDEP Action. Together, we can raise awareness, prevent future tragedies, and continue the legacy of a woman whose energy and kindness continue to move us forward.

Donate today to SUDEP Action and help us raise awareness of SUDEP in Caroline’s memory.
